Elite strength & conditioning course 2025–26

The elite strength & conditioning course (ESnCE) is an eight-month program designed for elite coaches, offering the unique opportunity to visit four elite sports centers in Europe.

Just like an athlete, you need to practice, plan, and challenge yourself to meet the demands of a complex world. In your role as an elite coach, there are skills and knowledge that you must constantly improve, evaluate, and develop.

The course is designed to meet the specific requirements of elite strength and conditioning coaches. You’ll have the opportunity to gain access to the unique expertise offered by sports performance centers across Europe. Sweden (Bosön), Finland (Kuortane), France (INSEP), and Switzerland (Magglingen). Upon completing the course, you’ll have a strong network of expert coaches across Europe with whom to discuss professional challenges and opportunities. You’ll also gain access to the latest research in the field and plenty of hands-on practice in helping your athlete(s) reach their potential and succeed.

The program began in 2020 as an Erasmus project co-funded by the European union. It received the EU’s “good practice” award for its “high-quality implementation and relevance.”

The third round (2025–26) continues with the four founding countries and two new countries—Israel and Luxembourg—joining as partners.

The course will provide you with, among other things:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements you will encounter and need to manage in order to remain a modern, up-to-date, successful, and attractive coach.
  • Self-reflection and a deeper understanding of your own behavior and its impact on your athlete(s) and their behavior.
  • Qualified expertise and knowledge in strength and conditioning training and testing.
  • Share your experiences with others in the same situation as you in a unique network.
  • You will learn to use tools to work in a long-term and systematic manner, adopting a lifelong learning approach.

Trainees – skills and the selection process

We aim for a diverse group of participants, with a maximum of four trainees from Sweden. A committee of experts interviews the candidates and makes the final selection based on specific criteria. The course is designed for those who have worked as a top-level coach for at least three years and will continue to do so at least 50% of the time during the course. You are motivated and eager to share your knowledge. An open mindset, a willingness to share, and a B2 level of English are also required. The course’s success depends on your active participation, motivation, and willingness to share.

Sports Leadership and Management Program

The sports leadership and management program (ILM) is the most advanced educational program in the sports sector for those who are managers or elected officials. It is a customized program designed for individuals who have strategic operational responsibility and lead others.

Leadership in a complex world

As a manager or leader, you constantly face new challenges, and the demands placed on you are becoming increasingly complex. The program focuses on leadership at the organizational, group, and individual levels. Drawing on research and proven experience, you will have the opportunity to test, reevaluate, and develop your practical approach to leadership and management.

Meet everyone from researchers and the smiling prison warden Jeaque Nuwpe from Kumla prison to Anja Pärsson, an Olympic alpine skiing medalist, who talks about becoming the best version of yourself. New for 2026/27 is a track running throughout the entire program where you’ll build your own leadership agent (AI) to use in your day-to-day work, both during and after the program.

Purpose

The goal is to address the unique circumstances and challenges faced by leaders in the nonprofit sector. Upon completion of the program, you will have developed a number of the skills required to lead an organization guided by ideals and values, and you will know how to navigate various contexts.

Who is this program for?

This program is designed for those who, in their work or role, lead others in some capacity. You must have strategic operational responsibility; the people you lead may be employees, volunteers, or a mix of both. This may involve or not involve personnel responsibility.

This training program is the most advanced offered by the Swedish sports confederation. The number of participants is limited to 20 to ensure that all participants receive the attention they need and to maintain the highest quality.

Here's what you'll get

  • Tools for strategic leadership in which a systemic approach embeds knowledge and readiness to act within the organization and its culture.
  • Insightful perspectives on what is required for successful leadership, management, and development.
  • Knowledge and understanding of how to become and remain an attractive and modern sports organization.
  • An understanding of uniqueness and added value, as well as how the relationship between assignments, activities, and resources can be utilized both strategically and operationally.
  • Self-awareness and tools for understanding your own behavior and its impact on others.
  • Exchanges of knowledge and experience with managers and leaders in similar positions.

Admission requirements and prerequisites

The program is designed for those of you who hold strategic leadership roles in which you lead others—such as secretaries-general, development directors, or chairpersons. The primary target audience is national-level executives or elected officials. You lead employees, volunteers, or a mix of both, without necessarily having formal personnel responsibility.

As part of the program, we use a standardized feedback form in which the people you lead provide you with feedback on your leadership style. A prerequisite for participation is therefore that your leadership influences at least four people.

Application

In addition to being part of the target group, motivation, full attendance, and active participation are key requirements for enrollment. We strive for a diverse group of participants and will conduct personal interviews with all applicants after the application deadline in preparation for the program. We have space for a maximum of 20 participants. Registration is binding, and full payment is due 6 weeks before the course begins. This applies provided that you are accepted into the program.

To complete your application, you'll need to fill out a questionnaire that will be included in the confirmation email you receive when you apply.

Additional Information

The program takes place at the Bosön development center in four sessions totaling 10 days—see dates. In addition, participants will need to complete preparatory and follow-up work at home equivalent to approximately 4 workdays.

The third stage coincides with the sports leadership symposium, which will thus become part of your personal ILM program.

Cancellations made less than 6 weeks before the start of the course will be charged the full fee. A doctor's note is required in case of illness.

Sports leadership symposium

Employers in sports—roles, responsibilities, and the courage to build the workplace of the future: that is the theme for 2026. Do you want to become a better employer where people feel comfortable, thrive, and perform at their best? Just like athletes, managers also need to train to improve and grow—in their leadership, in their role as employers, and as fellow human beings.

Ahmed Berhan ( host of the TV show *immigrants for Swedes*, among other things) will open the event with a reflection on Swedish leadership and cultural differences. Anja Pärson, Olympic gold medalist, will give an inspirational talk on the courage to become the best version of myself. The day will then continue with a panel discussion, workshops, reflection, and hands-on sessions. This year’s leadership symposium is being held in collaboration with the employers’ alliance.

Purpose

The purpose is to provide a forum for leaders and managers to learn about current research and to pool their resources to address the challenges and opportunities of leadership. Theory and practice are combined so that participants can quickly apply what they learn in their daily work.

Who is the symposium for?

The leadership symposium is aimed at those in leadership positions—whether as elected officials, managers, executive directors, or others with strategic responsibilities. The symposium addresses current issues in leadership and organization within civil society, with a particular focus on sports. The goal is to strengthen managers and leaders within the sports movement.

Here's what you'll get

  • Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations regarding employment.
  • Insight into how to foster a clear sense of accountability and create sustainable work environments.
  • Sharing experiences with others in similar positions and situations.
  • Different perspectives on what is required for the successful leadership, management, and development of nonprofit organizations.
  • Expands your network.
