Would you like to get a baseline measurement of your aerobic capacity or track your progress?

Whether you’re just starting your training program or want to check if your results are on track, Bosön’s VO2max test is the perfect tool for gaining a scientifically grounded understanding of your endurance and fitness level.

Respiratory Thresholds and How They Guide Training

In addition to VO2max, the test also measures your ventilatory thresholds (VT1 and VT2), which are crucial for understanding your intensity zones and tailoring your training. VT1 marks the point at which the body begins to produce more lactate than it can remove, signifying a transition from low to moderate intensity. VT2 is the higher threshold at which the body enters an anaerobic phase, which affects endurance and maximum performance. By measuring these thresholds, we can provide you with specific recommendations to optimize your Training —both to improve endurance and to enhance recovery and performance.

Maximum Aerobic Speed (MAS) and How It Can Help You

Another important parameter we measure during the test isMaximum Aerobic Speed (MAS). MAS is the speed or running pace at which you reach your maximum aerobic capacity. By identifying your MAS, we gain an accurate understanding of the pace at which your endurance training should be focused to improve oxygen uptake and aerobic capacity. Knowing your MAS allows you to set the right intensity for your workouts and maximize the physiological effects of each training session, which is crucial for improving both speed and endurance.

Conducting the Test

The test is conducted using a breathing mask that records oxygen consumption and a heart rate monitor that measures heart rate. The workload increases gradually in steady increments (the protocols are adjusted depending on the type of exercise selected), and the test typically lasts between 5 and 12 minutes. Once maximum exertion is reached, the test ends either when the subject feels they have reached their limit or when the test administrator determines it is time to stop. After the test, the subject rates their perceived exertion (on the Borg RPE scale of 6–20), and a capillary blood sample is taken to analyze lactate levels.

What will you get out of the test?

With Bosön’s VO2max test, you get more than just a number—you get a detailed analysis of your current fitness level and specific training zones. We help you understand your ventilatory thresholds and Maximum Aerobic Speed (MAS), so you can optimize your Training to improve both performance and endurance. By measuring these important parameters, you’ll get the key metrics you need to effectively manage your Training and maximize your results.

Important Information Before Your Visit

  • Please arrive well in advance to fill out your health declaration.
  • Make sure you're well-rested. You shouldn't have done a strenuous workout within 48 hours of the test.
  • Eat your last meal well in advance of the test (2–3 hours). If the test is scheduled for early in the morning, you may have a light breakfast no later than 2 hours before the test.
  • Bring clothes and shoes that you're comfortable in and used to wearing. Short-sleeved shirts and shorts are recommended.
