SF networking event: practice-oriented elite sports research

The purpose of the meeting is to increase interest in and understanding of how research—closely linked to the day-to-day realities of sports—can be used strategically in coach education and organizational development, thereby contributing to greater international competitiveness.

Throughout the day, you’ll have the opportunity to attend presentations by current doctoral students in the elite sports research school, who will share their research projects and demonstrate the concrete value these projects bring to the development of the specialized sports federations. As a representative of a specialized sports federation, you’ll also have the opportunity to reflect on and prepare for the future of elite sports organization, where collaboration between research and practice is becoming increasingly important.

Research as a modern coach education program

When research is conducted in close proximity to the practice of sports—with researchers working within sports federations and addressing the real needs of the sports world—a clear bridge is built between theory and everyday practice. Practice-oriented research, applied in conjunction with proven, genuine knowledge, provides greater opportunities for the development of elite athletes—in training, performance test , and high-performance environments. This contributes to a more sustainable and competitive elite sports landscape.

Purpose

  • Enhance the international competitiveness of Swedish sports through research, education
    , and collaboration.
  • Support and contribute to SF’s top-level coaching development in collaboration with the academy at
with the aim of advancing Swedish elite sports.
  • Strengthen the Swedish sports confederation’s credibility as a knowledge-based organization.

Who is the network for?

All SF members are invited to this event as an opportunity to be inspired and equipped with new ways to organize and run elite sports in a competitive world.

  • Practical tips and advice on how to organize and fund modern coach training.

Elite strength & conditioning course 2025–26

The elite strength & conditioning course (ESnCE) is an eight-month program designed for elite coaches, offering the unique opportunity to visit four elite sports centers in Europe.

Just like an athlete, you need to practice, plan, and challenge yourself to meet the demands of a complex world. In your role as an elite coach, there are skills and knowledge that you must constantly improve, evaluate, and develop.

The course is designed to meet the specific requirements of elite strength and conditioning coaches. You’ll have the opportunity to gain access to the unique expertise offered by sports performance centers across Europe. Sweden (Bosön), Finland (Kuortane), France (INSEP), and Switzerland (Magglingen). Upon completing the course, you’ll have a strong network of expert coaches across Europe with whom to discuss professional challenges and opportunities. You’ll also gain access to the latest research in the field and plenty of hands-on practice in helping your athlete(s) reach their potential and succeed.

The program began in 2020 as an Erasmus project co-funded by the European union. It received the EU’s “good practice” award for its “high-quality implementation and relevance.”

The third round (2025–26) continues with the four founding countries and two new countries—Israel and Luxembourg—joining as partners.

The course will provide you with, among other things:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements you will encounter and need to manage in order to remain a modern, up-to-date, successful, and attractive coach.
  • Self-reflection and a deeper understanding of your own behavior and its impact on your athlete(s) and their behavior.
  • Qualified expertise and knowledge in strength and conditioning training and testing.
  • Share your experiences with others in the same situation as you in a unique network.
  • You will learn to use tools to work in a long-term and systematic manner, adopting a lifelong learning approach.

Trainees – skills and the selection process

We aim for a diverse group of participants, with a maximum of four trainees from Sweden. A committee of experts interviews the candidates and makes the final selection based on specific criteria. The course is designed for those who have worked as a top-level coach for at least three years and will continue to do so at least 50% of the time during the course. You are motivated and eager to share your knowledge. An open mindset, a willingness to share, and a B2 level of English are also required. The course’s success depends on your active participation, motivation, and willingness to share.
